The Sun Always Shines On TV.
I’m sure you all know by now that my favourite band is a-ha. I have loved their music since the very first time I heard them sing this song on TV in Top Of The Pops, and I still love listening to it 35 years later. The interesting thing about an artist or band such as a-ha which is more concerned with performing live to audiences and excelling at it, rather than just churning out hit records made in the studio, is that they command a following of legions of fans who fill concert venues and stadia around the world wherever they perform. Here we have this Norwegian band performing in English (it is the language they have always used to perform), on their Summer Sonic Tour, in Tokyo to a Japanese audience in 2010. They first toured Japan in 1986 and it’s only one of countless countries where they can sell out within a day of tickets going on sale for their concerts. The band were inspired to write this song when they first came to live in England in 1983 and heard a TV weather forecaster talk about how much rain was going to fall...and then she said “never mind, it’s always sunny on TV”. Strange where song writers get their inspiration from!
Great song! I actually bought their CD with their Best Songs in 1992 while I was living in Japan. (If you can read the back of the case). It was called "Headlines & Deadlines"...
Yes...I have that one, I keep It in the car.
Reminiscent of the Pet Shop Boys, whom I loved.
They are very close friends...The Pet Shop Boys wrote a song for Morten Harket vocalist with a-ha to sing on his last solo album. They joined him in the final chorus.
