We recently lost the maestro of film music - Ennio Morricone, and have posted a few of his pieces to honour him already, but I found this one where he conducts the orchestra himself and just had to post it here. It’s his composition for the movie The Mission performed in the Great Basilica of St. Francis, in Assisi, Italy by the Chamber Orchestra and Chorus of the National Academy of St. Cecilia. The oboe solo in this piece of music is a particular favourite of mine.

I wonder what Francis would have thought of the Basilica? We have had some discussions here of Diogenes and cynic philosophy. If ever there was a model of rejecting one's culture, Francis of Assisi was a great example.
