Irish band Clannad with the theme from ITV series Harry’s Game. Sung in Irish Gaelic it is the only song to be sung entirely in Irish to enter the British charts where it reached #5 in 1982.
I had no idea that this was from a TV series. 1982 fits as really I started seriously buying Clannad as from about 1989. Why the gap? Well throughout the '80's I was living remotely in one of the remoter parts of BC with one radio channel (CBC) and obviously no TV or internet or mains electricity or any of that other stuff people find necessary. Running water? Well, yes, a running creek and a 1/4 mile run down to it.
Now...that is what I call remote!
@Marionville Oh when I lived in England I had no concept of where my life would lead nor any idea that I would end up living in a place with only one road to cross were I to go directly North between my home and the North Pole. Nor that I'd live 800 miles from any city larger than 100,000 people. I am so glad I had 5-1/2 years living in London and seeing the first performances of Dark Side of the Moon and Benj Brit doing Purcell's Fairy Queen at RAH and David Munrow doing stuff at QEH, plus touring Europe's art galleries and museums such as Kunsthistorisches Museum, the Uffizi, The Rijksmuseum and of course those incredible churches in Ravenna. I packed in enough to sustain me for life! 6 years near Snape helped as well. But it was in Canada that I sang in a cathedral choir.
@rogerbenham I don’t live in as remote a spot as you do...but i do live in a pretty rural environment now in the middle of Northern Ireland. All my sophisticated living and globe trotting is well behind me too...and I have no real desire, except for the odd trip to see or go to something I really want to, to return to city life ever again. I too have sung in prestigious choirs and cathedrals...but that too is part of my past, and I’m just hoping that our local country choir can return to rehearsing together again at some point in the not too distant future.
