I’ve been away to the land of poets and scholars in the west of Ireland for most of the week and thought I’d post this song from the pen of the great Percy French...Phil The Fluter’s Ball. Percy French was born in Co.Roscommon...right in the centre of Ireland in 1854 and was a prolific writer of song and verse, but also an artist of some note, mainly for his watercolours....many of which depict scenes in Connemara, Galway and Co. Mayo, where I toured during the past few days. I’ve chosen the renowned Irish Tenor Brendan O’Dowda to sing it.
A fine voice not heard for a long time. I've known the song a very long time. Good stuff.
Not my taste in Irish music at all! I guess my first contact was the Dubliners. Then the Johnsons.
Percy French and his music is amongst the best known and most commonly sung of Irish music. The Mountains of Mourne, Come Back Paddy Reillly and this one...Phil The Fluter being amongst the best known. It’s amongst the best known and most widely sung Irish music ...both in Ireland and overseas. I certainly knew it and sung it long before I came to live here in Northern Ireland.

@Marionville Like you Roger Percy was an engineer but qualifying out of Queens Dublin.

One of his first & most famous songs was Abdul the Bul Bul Amir - here performed in the same concert by Brendan O'Dowd:
