I’ve never made any secret of the fact that I’m an unashamed fan of Norwegian Band a-ha...and have been for 35 years...incidentally it was 35 years ago yesterday that their first single from their first album Hunting High And Low. - “Take On Me” reached #1 on the USA’s Billboard 100 where it was also placed in 37 other countries around the world. Their most recent album Cast In Steel was released in 2015 and this video was filmed at the signing on the release date in Oslo by the band’s three members. - Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen and Pal Waaktaar-Savoy. The accompanying song “ She’s Humming A Tune” is from this album.
It does nothing for me but then I never, never, never listen to pop music stations.
Good for you....but you wouldn’t hear this played on any of them anyway!
@Marionville Probably not. When I lived in the Rockies with one CBC channel I'd listen to Canada's Top of the Pops, which is why I liked the Pet Shop Boys "It's a Sin" and Candle in the Wind and that Watership down song. Saturday evenings in the midst of nowhere.
@rogerbenham Bands like a-ha are a niche market, and are not played on most of the radio stations, they are not young or hip enough for today’s millennials who are into a completely different type of music which gets massive plays on radio, and exposure by streaming. There are some good new young artists and musicians, however most of them are no good live and need autotune to keep them on key. a-ha have concentrated on composing and performing live and after their initial run of hits in the 1980s have preferred performing live in concerts to their fans around the world to worrying about getting songs in the charts, although occasionally they do manage it. They are still writing and releasing new albums periodically and usually tour extensively when they do release a new one.
Nice! I've never heard of them. What I like about the song in this video is the intricacy of the melody that avoids over-repetitiveness. Reminds me of early music of the Danish band Mew in that respect.
Wow...you’ve never heard of a-ha! If you lived anywhere in the world except USA you would. Have you never heard Take On Me...the song and it’s video has over 1.1 billion views on YouTube. The band has 16 Studio albums, sold over 100 million records, has 2 Guinness World records and did the James Bond movie theme for The Living Daylights. Here’s a reminder of Take On Me, both the original and the 2017 slowed down acoustic one.
