Today we’re up North again...as if it’s not cold enough here at the moment, we’re off to Finland with one of the finest pieces of music ever written. It’s stirring and patriotic and although not the official Finnish National Anthem...many Finns believe it should be. When Sibelius wrote it, he had to hide its true title and nature, which was a rallying call for independence from Russia . It is of course Finlandia by Jean Sibelius performed here by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Herbert von Karajan.

Absolutely one of my favourite pieces of music. Most of the scenery like Yukon, sometimes more like BC. I did not know loons nest in trees. Here they nest out on lake edges. The brown bear looked pretty like a grizzly. The real desolate land was more like NWT or Nunavut. The loons are clearly cousins of ours.
