I prefer the original words sung to any song...even when I can’t understand the language in which the original was written.
@Marionville As you know, this song was representing the fantastic grief that maybe many were feeling at the death of Jesus. It does not matter if it really happened. Any person seeing their beloved crucified must have felt heart wrenching. J S Bach was very Christian and I'd expect he was crying as he wrote this. Purcell's Dido lament might be sadder but Bach's It is finished is Bach's soul expressing agony. Sissel does not render that immense pain.
