The Whistling Gipsy or The Gipsy Rover is a song which was written by Irish song writer Leo Maguire in the 1950s based on a number of earlier songs about a wealthy or high-born young woman’s encounter with gipsies and eventually falling in love with one, forfeiting their life of luxury to run off with him. This is The Kingston Trio singing their version of the song from 1961.
