We are staying in Southern Italy today with our post of the traditional folk dance the Tarantella. This dance, which dates from the 14th century, is named for and originates in the town of Taranto in the region of Apulla. The story is - the bite of the Tarantula spider (also named after the town) caused people to go into muscle spasms and jump around stamping their feet in agitation, and especially in the case of the ladies an exaggerated flouncing of petticoats too.
must get back to Italy again.
stayed there several times & always remember the ppl so friendly & they seemed to have that joie de vivre.
of course, i did drink a lot of vino in those days. everybody was happy..
We drove around Europe every year during summer holidays with our two sons when they were schoolboys…always ending up in the south of Italy by various different routes. It’s my favourite European country, the food, the wine, the scenery, the sun….and most of all the people are wonderful!
Ooooo......too much caffeine......hahahahaha.....
What an interesting origination story for a fun, lively song - and dance!
Yes…I thought so.
Very lively piece. I like it.
