I like Rammstein …but not this particular song or it’s video. That’s not to say that I don’t think it’s brave and honest of them to show such introspection and self awareness, and admire them for that. I just find the song and video not aesthetically pleasing to either my eyes or ears…sorry!
I know that history is full of barbarity….Germany’s no less than any other. In particular the history leading up to the Second World War is well recorded and we understand how and why Hitler and his National Socialist Party gained power by exploiting the feeling of powerlessness after Germany’s defeat and humiliation in WW felt by the German people. The more recent German history of post WW2, a country divided politically and then the fall of communism and the Berlin Wall. Then reunited again but the western half socially and economically more liberal than the poorer eastern half, leading to the resurgence of neo-Nazism springing from the former East German feeling of inequality and dislike of immigrants. It’s legitimate, and healthy, for an artist or band of any nationality to question and probe their country’s past and brave to acknowledge its faults and atrocities, in the interests of not repeating them in the future.
