She was far more talented that just being the "cuchi-cuchi girl" she was known for being in those years!
Charo owned a home and a restaurant on Kauai for many years. She even performed at the restaurant sometimes. I remember the day I saw her in person without her make up and glitzy clothes, while eating lunch in her restaurant and I was surprised to see she was just an average looking woman, without the glamor gal she becomes when she performs.
The beach in front of her home is beautiful, and I often perform weddings right in front of her house. My young couples have no idea who Charo was, haha! She no longer lives on Kauai, but everyone knows which house is Charo's.

Yes, all we ever saw on tv was the fluff, & then when I heard her play guitar, I was hooked.
She’s very good on the guitar!! It looks like she used her finger nails as pic’s!

Those flamenco players have nails like claws. I have incredibly thin nails and do it with fingertips.
@rogerbenham That must hurt the fingertips? Or one develops some good calluses!!
@Redheadedgammy Yes and as a consequence I usually will do flamenco for not more than 1/4 hour. With steel strings (99.9% of what I play is on nylon) my fingers would be torn to shreds. I rather assume strummers wear out their plastic picks.
Yes, their fingernails are really strong, but they also treat them with something as far as I understand, & I'd like to find out what. My nails are a mess, & false ones make them worse.
