In 2016 Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest which was held in Stockholm, Sweden with Jamala and her song “1944”. She has had to flee her country in the face of the invasion by Russia and is now safely in Turkey, but enroute there via Germany she re-recorded the same song on German TV four days ago. The words of this song have now taken on a new and startling reality for Jamala and her country’s people!
