Wales is famed throughout the world for its music and in particular it’s fine vocal ability. In the Welsh valleys and coal- mining villages every village or colliery had a brass band and a male voice choir. Probably the best known of all the choirs is The Treorchy Male Voice Choir, and here they sing one of the best loved Welsh songs - Myfanwy.
My ex-wife was part Welsh. We once attended the Gymanfa Ganu in Columbus, Ohio with her parents, and I must admit I had a real good time. Of course there was the heavy religious overtone, but there was nearly always alternative activities like Welsh Folk Dancing, Welsh Cultural talks, and souvenir sales area. And I will swear every damn Welshman can sing well.
Marvelous voices!!! Really enjoyed hearing this one.
Glad you did.
I knew a Myfanwy. What about women there? And how is Ebbw Vale now?
I’m sure Ebbw Vale is still a town in Wales…I can’t say I’ve ever visited it I’m afraid. Of course there are many great women singers in Wales too…and many of them sing in choirs of SATB and SA composition…some may even be called Myfanwy!
@Marionville I posted a quartet year or more ago. Plethin? No Plethyn
I loved Wales Central as a mountain Man. They all wanted me to live there. They dismissed my Englishness and just accepted my then 15 years of living in mountains remotely.
My friend called his wife Mivarno!
Lovely sound.
Yes…wonderful!
