As today is the 120th anniversary of the first public performance of one of my favourite classical pieces of music, I thought I’d make it my post of the day. It’s French composer Maurice Ravel’s - Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte, or in English…Pavane For A Dead Princess, which debuted in Paris today in 1902 and was performed by Spanish pianist Ricardo Vines.

….Ravel composed this piece of music in 1899 whilst studying composition at the Conservatoire de Paris under Gabriel Faure. In 1910 Ravel published an orchestrated version which is widely considered to be his masterpiece. Here it is performed by Orchestre National de France (ORTF)..
