I’m heading back to the land of my birth this morning to Stirling …which is roughly an hour to the northwest of Edinburgh where I was born…by either road or train. Stirling Castle was an appropriately historic setting in 2018, for undoubtedly the best Scottish folk/rock band ever, to play their last concerts before disbanding. Runrig are that band, and here they perform the song Alba - which is the Scots Gaelic name for Scotland.
What a beautiful castle and surrounding land! Loved the music too Marje!
Glad you did.
Well, I watched it all but it did virtually nothing for me. Simplistic playing and "tune". I'm sad that this is where Scottish music has gone."
Well I much preferred the music in the movie. Stirling Castle I've of course seen in film and person. Highly defensible. But what a mass of graves! And the town below built over where so much English and Scottish blood was sown and so many breathed their last.
It’s not where Scottish music has gone nor is it sad…it’s only one sample of the output of one particular band…and a very good one of that particular genre. Scottish music, it’s artists, and it’s creativity and musicianship is diverse and is still evolving in many different directions…as music from any other county is also doing. Only things that are dead remain static Roger, much as I love much of the old music and musical styles, and wish them to be preserved and played today…it should never be at the expense of innovation and new ways of making music. The musical canon is vast enough to accommodate all styles and tastes I’d have thought!
@Lilac-JadeCanada Good show!
