I know next to nothing about Guatemala except that it’s a Central American country lying directly to the south of Mexico, official language Spanish due to being colonised by Spain during the 16th century, geographically a mountainous volcanic region with a tropical climate. I suppose I did realise that it would have a history of Mayan culture dating from pre-conquistador times and that Mayan music mixed with music from Spain will have influenced its modern music culture. The Guatemalan marimba is apparently the national instrument and is incorporated into much traditional folk and dance music.
I liked this.
Good…I liked it too.
Interesting.I do like the marimba sound.
Me too…I really like it.
@Marionville I instantly think ''tropic'' when I hear it.
I don't think I've ever seen six musicians playing the same instrument at the same time. How interesting! I really enjoyed the dancing.
Yes…It’s interesting I think to find out new facts and musical customs from other parts of the world. Most countries have local variations and specialities of music and dance peculiar to their part of the world and culture.
@Marionville That's one of the reasons I love this group - there are so many places with their own variations, and it's so interesting.
