I’ve always liked the sound of the Sitar…and although I don’t really listen to much traditional Indian music, when I hear it I enjoy. The Sitar originates in the Indian subcontinent and is an instrument of the lute family of stringed instruments, in particular it’s an essential component of the classical and traditional music of Northern India, Bangladesh & Pakistan….this is a typical example of sitar music which I really like….
I'll take Anoushka Shankar over this.
It’s not a competition…..but of course Anoushka has certainly inherited the virtuoso musical skills of playing the sitar from her father. However, it was that particular tune I really liked, and was why I posted it.. I’m sure there are scores of great exponents of the sitar who are less well known to us too…all over the subcontinent.
Beautiful sound!
Yes…lovely!
Very different from what I've heard before. Interesting. Modernising it.
Yes…definitely more contemporary.
I love the sound of the Sitar too Marje! This guy kind of “rocks” it a little!! Very cool video!
Glad you like it too!
