I thought I’d post this now we’ve got the new King Charles on the throne …Charles III…but we could’ve had a Charles III decades earlier if The “45…rebellion had succeeded in 1745! This song with words by Robert Burns was written in 1794 to commemorate Bonnie Prince Charlie and his failed Jacobite Rebellion which was ultimately defeated at The Battle of Culloden (1746) ending the fight to reinstate the Stuart dynasty to the British throne. Here’s Scottish singer Eddi Reader singing a slightly rocked up version of - Charlie Is My Darling….

…..i think this was one of the first songs I ever sang as a child…along with Loch Lomond!

Fun! The Bonnie Prince was a right poofter, a terrible judge of people, could not speak Scot or English and shockingly uncaring of the masses who died in his cause. Cumberland was a black mark on English history like Cromwell.
