I thought as we in the U.K. are in official national mourning for our Queen….and there’s wall to wall coverage on TV of her lying in State at Westminster Hall, where over one million people are expected to queue up to file past her this week, that this song by Purcell would be a fitting post today. It’s Henry Purcell’s Dido’s Lament…sung here by the great American soprano Jessye Norman…..”When I am laid in earth”…….

I once performed it at a music festival. An operatic singer did Dido and on guitar I played the music. I first heard it sung by Maureen Forester, on an LP of hers including fruits like Erbarme Dich (St J P).

@Marionville OOps.Yes, I seem to be more into commenting and forget about that aspect. I confess I'd not be queuing to see QE2. I saw my embalmed brother and my wife lying in her coffin and felt that I loved the person but they were not in the body. That was almost like going to Madam Tussauds.
