I had a short dialogue with @RogerBenham earlier when I remarked that my favourite classical composers were probably Sibelius & Grieg…two Scandinavians of course, so no surprise there then! Finnish composer Jean Sibelius always seems to manage to convey in his music vistas of vast majestic forests and endless watery lakelands…which is actually what much of the landscape of Finland consists of.
I get a feeling of inner peace and quiet listening to Sibelius, probably why many of his compositions have been turned into hymns, the last movement of Finlandia for instance, as they have a hymn-like quality although they were not actually written as devotional pieces. Adante Festivo which was written in 1922 - performed by Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Mariss Jansons.
My type of evening music to unwind for bed.
So much of Finland is like where I live and around the area,
I thought it was more rugged and mountainous where you live….a lot of Finland is pretty flat.
@Marionville That is true but the lakes are very alike and of course snow-covered forests. The central plateau of BC is fairly flat with low hills, not mountains. There is an area there called the Lakes District. I live on the East side of the Coast Mountains so I can be in the Lakes area in about 2 hours.
A delight for the ears and eyes. Beautiful scenery in the video, and the music is wonderful!!
Peaceful and serene!
