Last weekend Liverpool hosted the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine who had been winners in 2022. This year the 2023 competition was won by Sweden, represented by Loreen with her song Tattoo. Loreen is a two-time winner having already won it for Sweden in 2014…a feat only managed once before, by Ireland’s Johnny Logan. Anyway, it means that next year’s event will be hosted by Sweden on the 50th anniversary of their first win in 1974 by ABBA with Waterloo.

That’s the recording…the first one was the live performance at the competition.

It would be interesting to compare it with other entries. As a song, this does not impress me. Puppet on a String or I imagine ABBA before had good tunes. I did not feel this had. Her fingernails indicated someone who never did anything useful (I know they had to be false but they distracted me).

I was away in Donegal singing with my choir last weekend and didn’t get to watch any of the competition, so I can’t really say whether it was the one I would’ve picked as the winning entry or not.
