Gary Moore was a local legend here in Northern Ireland, the boy from Belfast who lived in the next street to another musical legend Van Morrison…yes they both grew up in the same East Belfast neighbourhood at the same time, only a few years apart in age. Gary became one of the best rock guitarists in the world at a time when there was plenty of competition for the title “best”. Certainly on this island of Ireland he was unmatched. Sadly, like many others he died at a fairly young age of 58 in 2011, but we are lucky to have YouTube which was just newly born at the time of his death, to be able to see him perform live..for example here on Irish TV RTE’s Late Late Show with Gay Byrne, performing Over The Hills & Far Away with The Chieftains, in 1987…

Wonderful performance!! I've loved the Chieftains for decades and really enjoyed this collaboration with Gary Moore. 🥰

Isn't that Christy Moore on pipes? Who is on flute? Thanks!

Paddy Maloney on pipes and Matt Malloy on flute.

@Marionville I knew that I knew both faces. Maloney from the Chieftains, Malloy as well?

@rogerbenham Yes..it is the Chieftains playing with Gary Moore…I said so in my preamble!

@Marionville OOps, sorry.
