I’ve always been rather keen on a good sea shanty by a group of strong male singers, and I found an American 5-man a capella group from Minnesota called Home Free. They apparently tour the USA performing up to 200 concerts a year, and here they are at one of these concerts with a sea shanty medley.
Love a good sea shanty too, but these guys have a much larger hairstylist and wardrobe budget than many sailors
…plus they can stay on dry land!
I love it. Been part of my life ever since Drunken Sailor.
Unlike other genres, in sea shanty, you can hear the regional accents of singers. Funny that.
True!
They are fabulous!! It's so nice that you find these groups and share them with all of us Marje. Thank you for posting this one. I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed…
Superb crowd. Thanks for this Marje. It's a delight to learn that these wonderful working songs are having some resurgence. Hopefully a reasonable proportion of the audiences will extend themselves to listen & learn the full songs not just these 5 second sound bites. But perhaps I'm being oprimistic & too hopeful that the human brain is still capable of concentrating that long.
I think they were just doing a shortened concert medley of shanties that they usually sing in full…I’m sure their fan base know that and enjoy them all in full too…
Actually, there is some truth in that. I read or heard somewhere that long intros are not appreciated nowadays; apparently, listeners in general don't have enough patience.
@Ryo1 Very sad & IMO stupid. The introduction is often where you learn vital information to enable comprehensive understanding of the content of the lyrics.
