Today it’s very easy to see that Spring is well and truly underway with daffodils, tulips and hyacinths blooming and new green shoots and leaves budding everywhere. I thought to celebrate earth’s seasonal renewal we’d listen to Spring from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Written over three hundred years ago in 1720 by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, who was also known as ‘The Red Priest’ because he trained as a Catholic priest and had flaming red hair, The Four Seasons is a violin concerto in four parts…one for each season, but Spring is by far the most popular and best known…

Ah yes. Spring. Wrong movement for here. Photo taken just now stepping out of my door. I like the Vivaldi but the photos were clearly not my part of the world.

@Marionville The days are getting longer and warmer! But there still could be a sudden cold snap. The West Coast sea water current flows down from the Aleutian Islands down to California. Off the BC coast it is quite cold unlike your Gulf Strem/

Embarrassing to say that I didn’t know of this piece until I watched the 1980’s movie The Four Seasons. The Alan Alda film about three couple’s travels during each of the four seasons and he used this piece. I had to go buy the cassette tape. Really nice.

Yes…I saw that film and enjoyed it, the entire four movements of the concerto are well worth listening to. The other three representations of the seasons are less well known of course but good too.
