I thought we’d listen to something sung in Greek today…so here is Elpida, performed and played on the piano by Konstantinos Argiros. I don’t understand the words but I’d lay bets that he’s singing for his lost love…
Unless travelling & never returned to continue relationship the term "lost love" has to be one of the most incorrect uses of language. The expression most commonly means that the loser has not had his amorous ideals fulfilled.
I long since realised that the relationships lost that grieved me the most were those that were furthest from my ideals.
Per Musixmatch translation:
To forget you with time
It's been months since I saw you
And you're still here
Everyone tells me to turn the page
Find something else to forget about
I live and breathe hope
That one day you will come
You kept me up all night again with booze and crap
The heart does not make me white-faced
Head bowed, mind clouded
And the smile off his face
I go around in groups, I exorcise your scent
In new kisses and perfumes
How to stay friends that doesn't fade from the lips
Your name with a thousand names
Everyone tells me not to insist
If he loved you he would be here
It won't come back, don't wait
You're wasting time
Everyone tells me to turn the page
Find something else to forget about

Thank you…I was correct that it’s an ode for the lovelorn…could tell from the way he was performing it.
That was really enjoyable!
The lyrics of the song refer to the agony and pain that accompanies separation. Despite the advice of his friends to move on and forget, the protagonist is still stuck in the past, living in the hope that his beloved will return.
The song “Elpida” is a love song full of emotional charge, where the popular performer Konstantinos Argyros interprets the lyrics with passion and intensity. The repetitive phrases “You kept me up late again with booze” and “How can we remain friends if your name is not erased from my lips by a thousand names?” reflect the protagonist’s inner conflict and inability to move on.
@Lilac-JadeCanada Well I guessed pretty well spot on then! He conveyed those feelings pretty well in his interpretation of the words of the song…
@Marionville Yes, sounded heartbroken, so I looked it up.
Quick CocaCola advert! Well they seem to very much like his playing! It sounded almost revolutionary to me.
He sounded lovelorn to me…yes obviously they allow product placement in Greece. Wouldn’t be allowed on the BBC!
