French composer Maurice Ravel is probably best known for his ‘Bolero’, but who of course wrote many other works including this one which is an orchestral favourite of mine. It’s a piece Ravel originally wrote only for the piano in 1899, but which he expanded into an orchestral version in 1910. Pavane pour une Infante Defunte which translates as Procession for a Dead Princess in English. I thought it fitting to select a version performed in France by Orchestre National de France under the direction of conductor Dalia Staseveska..
