One of my favourite Middle Eastern rhythms and dance styles is BALADI. I've been looking for a good video of the music to share, but I felt like I can't share the music without showing the dance style that goes with it. This dance is sultry and fun, but requires a lot of stamina!!!! This music is very traditional baladi, with the accordion intro, going into the baladi rhythm (dum dum tek dum tek). This is also the appropriate costuming for baladi (straight long baladi dress with the headband, and little hip scarf). Assaya means cane (I'm not good at using the cane myself, but more adept at using a sword for dance).

It takes years to learn this style and I've taken just a few classes and workshops. I would like to learn more in the future. It's not really my go to style as I usually do Tribal Fusion and Contemporary Fusion bellydance.
