Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendez & Brazil 66 (Had to put up ?original? from 1966, especially since I had recently wanted to, but didn't because it seemed one for the summer, which had passed, sort of.)
I posted the other version earlier only because it was new to me....been listening to different versions for 50 or more years.....I think I like the Sergio Memdes Brasil 66 version best.
Okay. I was unsure if you knew which one you posted and didn't realize initially that Mendes was actually involved with the new version. But I had come across it a week or two ago and was very taken with it, even though I had heard it several times before. I thought of posting it, but felt it was more appropriate for summer. I'm funny that way.
And another....
Though I like her basic voice, I don't like some elements of of her interpretation in the first minute which seem thankfully abandoned for the rest of the song. Nice "scenery" in this as well.
Even older.....
It's nice. You should post it in the main section, though it sounds like the '70's
@Rossy92 Being black & white, I assumed it was older than Mendez's version. I remember listening to this song as a girl but can't find that one & can't remember who did it.
@Lilac-Jade Jorge Ben wrote it, so his version is probably oldest, but don't quote me on that. I listened to it but didn't like it.
@Rossy92 Name is not familiar. I remember liking it very much as a girl but never knew the name of it until the Mendez version came out. It was a group in the 50's.
@Lilac-Jade Ben was huge in Brazil. According to Wikipedia: Mas Que Nada is a song written and originally performed in 1963 by Jorge Ben Jor on his debut album, which became Sérgio Mendes' signature song in his 1966 cover version.
@Rossy92 I must have mis-remembered how long ago it was as this one says original in 1963...…don't like it as much as the one I remember .
@Rossy92 Well we've narrowed it down now.
@Lilac-Jade Yeah that's the Ben version I didn't care for either.
@Rossy92 Oh well, at least we know there are more pleasing versions.
That's even better, but the picture without the statue would have been nice too.
Very true, even if it is breathtaking.
