To support @Marionville in France, I'll post a good song of 1962, my first known French pop song!
JOHNNY HALLYDAY - RETIENS LA NUIT
"Prolong the night for the both of us until the end of time
Prolong the night for our hearts in their vagabond course
Hold me tight against your body, it must be times of madness,
A great love erases the day and makes us forget about life"
Thank you for thinking of me and posting this, We had a great time, our French hosts were marvellous, most attentive and charming, The singing was joyful, and appreciated by an enthusiastic audience who have now been converted to American Country Music....not something they hear sung much around those parts. They did all seem to know John Denver’s Country Roads though, and sang along to it! I’m glad to be back to speaking English again, as it was challenging to converse with my host who spoke virtually no English, and my own French is extremely limited.....but he was kindness itself in looking after and cooking for my friend and myself. He had a great bass voice too, which was amazing to be wakened up to at 7 am, the sound reverberating through his house from the kitchen where he was making our breakfast!
You're welcome @Marionville, you're a great host of our group and we are grateful for that too! From what I read I can see you had a wonderful time over there and that's very important, our lives are coloured with good memories like those.
@Merseyman1 I appreciate your kind words.
She'll love it - there's a photo of semi naked young man!
I seem to have acquired a rather unsavoury reputation...!
@Marionville Unsaavoury? I thought that it was sweet. How was the Brittany trip?
@FrayedBear it was absolutely marvellous, our hosts extremely charming and attentive, the singing superb from both choirs, and the weather, food and drink all top class. My friend Lorna and myself were hosted in the home of a gentleman called Christian who had the deepest bass voice I’ve heard in a long time, He only moved to Brittany three years ago, from Paris, where he sang in a choir called La Chorale Rousse, which specialised in Russian music and Gregorian chants.....he sings and plays several musical instruments. An extremely accomplished and very cultured man....but alas he had very little English! He was extremely large, and had won two gold medals at the 1980 Paralympic Games which were held in Arnhem in Holland...for throwing the Javelin and the Shot Putt. He actually reminded me of Peter, his physical appearance, height, deep voice and physical strength were strangely similar, but the musical talent was not. Peter couldn’t sing a note nor play an instrument!
@Marionville Fantastic.
Early days yet but you need to move on from making comparisons and simply seize the day for what it brings - living in the moment not the past.
Russian singing does enjoy its bass (lol, nearly had a gross misspell there!) periods.
Pleased to have your decent liveliness back.
@FrayedBear Thanks for the advice...I couldn’t help but see the similarities....! Thank you for the nice compliment, it’s always nice to feel your contributions are appreciated.
Câlice que c'est donc chouette ça! Les bons vieux temps...de mes grands-parents.
