I will post two songs by Mexican Treasure.... Alberto Cortez.... one his own composition and the other from his departed Argentinian Friend Facundo Cabral. Both I consider My Teachers.
I really enjoy songs in Spanish that talk about life and not just the usual love theme.
Those are two of the very best.
I do not have to understand Spanish to hear that these are not beige songs.
Both are about life... I will try to find the right translation. A partir de manana (Starting tomorrow) he wrote when he was turning 40... how he was going to see and enjoy the rest of his life. No soy de aqui, ni soy de alla (I am not from here, neither from there)... is the flagship song of Facundo Cabral. Both are a source of inspiration how should I live my life.
@GipsyOfNewSpain I'm fine with the first song because I'm pretty good at reading Spanish. I would enjoy the lyrics for the second one.
@brentan just posted the lyrics. Sad story of him passing. After a Concert he received a ride to the Airport from the Promoter and "Sicarios" were after the promoter and shoot at the car killing him instead. I saw him in my youth in Puerto Rico and in my mid age at DC. It was a grave loss... he kept the song alive "rewriting, adding verses to the song".
@GipsyOfNewSpain Thanks for that. You got me curious about him so I looked him up on Wikipedia. He sure had a fascinating life story, full of joy and tragedy. I must see if there are more videos of him on YT.
@brentan There are plenty... his concerts were a revelation to me.... back then as of now.... I saw him about 44 odds years ago in Puerto Rico... he comes with his guitar and start talking sings and talks, make jokes a lot of poetry... lyric poetry... eastern philosophy. he will say things like.... "eat grass, millions of cows can't be wrong". He lost in a plane crash to L.A. his american wife and daughter. I saw him again in DC in the 2000's... I wouldn't trade his concert for no other artist.... it was like going to a Life Seminar. Very humble... I recommend you if you can follow Spanish.... his two record set of his live concert in Palacio de Buenas Artes in Mejico. Early 70's. vol 1 and 2. The soundtrack of my morning was his life album and jethro tull "thick as a brick" live album. I was ready to take on the world after those two guys.
For you... a greatest hits...
I'll have a go at listening but Spanish is spoken very fast for me. I see lyrics are available that translate the spoken words too so that should help!
