3 Versions of one of the most popular songs in the Spanish Language during the 20th Century... the song was featured in a Spanish Movie of 1934. "La Bien Paga".
-First as a Guaguanco... Cuba's Los Papines in a Medley... Maria de la O /La Bien Paga from early 1960's
-Second as Salsa Style from Puerto Rico Sonora Poncena from the late 1960's
-Third As a Jazzed Up Copla Bebo Valdez from Cuba at piano and El Cigala from Spain singing from a 2002 Concert in Spain
Wonderful stuff! I too liked Bebo & Cigala best of the three. So subtle yet somehow raw.
Nothing like a Live Performance. Gitano Style. None of the three versions are close to the original of the 1930's I believe. Legendary Cuban Pianist Bevo Valdes was 84 at that performance.
@GipsyOfNewSpain What do you think of his namesake, pianist Chucho Valdes, Is his style of Cuban jazz a little mainstream for you?
Particularly liked the third one.
Is the Spanish Gypsy Element. The song was written in the Spanish Gypsy Lingo of the 1930's. Different from other countries and cultures... The Spaniard Gypsy became Great World Class Entertainers and having Gypsy Blood became a badge of honor for a Spaniard Entertainer. Musicians, Singers, Dancers. The song is a Copla.
