I’ve shared this once before, many months ago and since then we’ve gained quite a number of new members, who might be touched by this song the way I am. Sung by Dmitri Hvorostovsky, very touchingly, at the time when the brain cancer which ultimately claimed him, was briefly in remission.
I had read up on this song, and will share with you. Originally it was a poem, by a Japanese, about the large number of their people who did not come back from the Second World War. Then it was set to music, and also embraced by the Soviet people, who had huge losses in same war and who mourned all those who did not return. Here Dmitri sings White Cranes, and there are English sub-titles so that we, the listener, can feel the pain in the words.
