One for the host - "Snåsavatnet" here sung by Birger Jorstadts

I heard this whilst "travelling" on the Nordland rail - In 2012, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation presented a ten-hour documentary about Nordlandsbanen, which gave millions of viewers a real-time sense of this beautiful railway journey. Here I hope, you can watch the short promo.

If anyone finds the lyrics and an English translation please post the - they are worth reading.

Thank you for thinking about me. As far as I can see the song is about a lake, the sixth largest in Norway. Snasavatnet which appears to be almost like an extension of the Trondheim Fjord and along the southern shore of which runs the Nordland railway line. For Xmas I’ve just been given a trip to Oslo for two with 2 concert tickets to see a-ha included...at the end of October next year. I intend to travel around by train to see as much of Norway as I can during this time....will possibly incorporate this very route on my intinerary.

If you can access the Norwegian Railway's 2012 10 hour film documentary it is well worth it. I love the way that they show many sections in the livery of the seasons in a five minute segment ie. You may see it start in winter with deep snow which then fades at the exact same point to spring (and a little spring symbol comes on), then to summer & finally autumn. Most of the filming is directly forward up the line from out of the drivers cabin swivelling to the side occassionally for a more comprehensive look at passing lakes shores or forests. The driver, ticket collector and various other staff together with passengers are talked to. About every ten minutes a new song is played most about the town approaching or in this case their largest lake. SBS our multi ethnic broadcaster supplies translations of everything said or sung in Norwegian. Many songs are in English. I'm sure that you will be able to buy a dvd set through the Norwegian Tourist Board or local embassy.
A new year's gift for you? Your paid trip and a-Ha tickets sound like a generous seasononal gift from your son, are they or have you won a competition?
Watching the train documentary has reminded me that my brother was mightily taken with Norway when he was about 20. He went hiking in the mountains above the fjords several times I think.

@FrayedBear It was an Xmas present from them. It was extremely generous, and I was quite overwhelmed. They knew I had to cancel my trip to Norway to see the Northern Lights when Graeme died last January, this is to compensate I think. They know I’ve always wanted to visit Norway, and have incorporated the concert as a reason for going. Neil and his wife Carly are very thoughtful and considerate, they are also lucky enough to be in high earning occupations and are therefore able to afford to be generous.
