Today we’re going to cowboy country...but not to Montana or Wyoming, but to Gaucho country in South America. To be precise this is Kiko Goulart from the southern Brazilian grasslands with the song Esse Cavalo Que Eu Tenho (This Horse That I Have)

This is a romanticised version of a life that probably no longer exists. Gauchos now control herds from the air as the herds are too large to be done in conventional ways. This is clearly shown on NetFlix's film "Terra." Watch the trailer and if you get Netflix watch the film - if you dare. [terra.omega]

*"As I grow older, I obsess over politics, religion and money. I often wonder why, we as humans have created such a fear based society and continue to force it on every culture that differs from our own. Is there a god or can we only depend on ourselves just to live a life of chasing a way to make a living in this world without allowing ourselves to be happy along the way. Has it always been this way? It often seems to me that man is the only living organism in the universe that is hell bent on destroying itself and everything else along with it.

The movie starts out showing how amazing life is and how it progressed over millions of years. And although it equates it to evolution it could just as easily likened it to a creation based dialog.

The amazing part of this movie is how it shows nature and the contrast of man's natural tendencies to organize everything in our lives. The need to have everything under our control to the point of changing natures way of progress that has lasted what seems forever. Technology, politics and money has given man the ability to control everything except it seems our own destruction.

Can we save us from ourselves? Is it too late? YOU Decide!"*

BTW, the music at the end is wonderful. I wish I could find the end theme song.

I don’t think you are completely correct, because one of our top chefs in the U.K. did a programme in South America recently when he travelled around in Uruguay and Argentina and visited a number of cattle ranches where he went out to work with the gauchos and found all about their lives and how the cattle is raised, slaughtered, marketed and cooked. So there must still be some traditional cowboys working there.

@Marionville There are probably some smaller ranches that still do things the old fashioned way. In this country (especially in places like our islands) there are small ranchers that produce organic meats. However, large ranches and feed lots are becoming the norm. If you can, watch the film. It would have been nice to get the music but I searched and didn't have any luck.

@JackPedigo. Will do...thanks.

@Marionville I found it. Even though I am not a big fan of pop music this one gets me hard. Every time I hear it I get even more emotional. Here is the link.

and one of the comments that speaks to me: "Isabel Sörling, thank you for lending your wonderful voice and unique interpretation of this song to the disquieting yet necessary film Terra. It helps bring so much which is at stake, home!" It is a must see film for anyone concerned with the state of our life support system.

@JackPedigo Yes...I love this version of the Tears For Fears song. It was covered by Gary Jules already, but I hadn’t heard this one by Isabel Sorling..lovely voice.

@Marionville Thank you. I just got the connection, Tears for Fears. It absolutely fits for our times and the film. Hearing and seeing this always brings me tears.
