Two of the best known singers to come out of Greece ...and who were very popular in the 1970s. Nana Mouskouri & Demis Roussos. - Happy To Be On An Island In The Sun....sadly it’s not on a Greek Island but only in the studio! P.S. I don’t think Nana knew the words and Demis sprang a surprise on her!
I like them both, but I was a real fun of Demis Roussos, even got to see him in a Concert sitting in the front rows!
I did over a year spanning two summers in a Greek island in the sun... Crete. I know the feeling... I had lived the life...What I did there cost me the Divorce. The Memories of Chasing Scandinavians on their Holiday will always be Dear to me. I am sorry to admit I had been a Womanizer since I started writing poems and songs at age 14. So I found it logical that something I wrote for someone and found by my wife when I returned to the states from Crete ended for us because she said I never wrote something that pretty for her. How explain to her that there may be 40 women in Europe holding on to the same poem with a customized last verse to accommodate each. Twenty Five years later that Danish Lady and I... we are still in contact via Facebook. My Ex and I are not in Facebook but we are in contact. "When time is a prison it does not matter to reason if what we are doing is right or wrong, because you can't stay and I can't go..." That was the start of what ended it... well, Nothing like being a Sailor in Paradise. I will always be an Islander because I was born in an Island... Island in the Sun. Thank for the Memories Brought Back. I haven't had a touch of alcohol in about 5 months but right about now... I will like to have a shot or two of Ouzo. (the Original that was Opium Base I may add). Thanks because those Women were Happy to be in an Island in the Sun.
Glad to stir...what are obviously bitter sweet memories...you old sea dog you!
@Marionville I was born to be a sailor and to be a womanizer... I am okay if there is no more women in my life. Memories of better times will keep me company until taps. And yet still looking at a woman my age well kept brings that Old Sea Dog front and center. Because you can only be what you are.
You seem to be forgetting the most famous Maria Callas
Also Manos Hadjidakis
and not forgetting Mikas Theodorakis's contribution to music:
Lol that should keep you occupied for the rest of the day! Enjoy.
@FrayedBear Yes...thank you. I was of course talking in the generality of popular music with the majority of the public. Callas is very famous of course, but not listened to by the majority who don’t listen or understand opera, it’s very much a minority who do, The other two names would not be well known by the unwashed masses at all, it’s sad to say.
@FrayedBear Jeepers, you just put up 5-3/4 hours of music. Sorry but I've got other things to do today. But golly Marionville referring to the unwashed masses is a wee bit over the top even for a moderator. It is after all an opinion not necessarily based on fact.
@rogerbenham Yes wonderful isn't it? Music whilst you live your day.
What has beeing a modderator gott to do with it? Both of the last Greeks highlighted by me are probably sound recognnisable to a very broad audience through their contributions to film music.
I read a long time ago that the way to the masses heart is to insult them hard & frequently - look at Winston Churchill.
@rogerbenham Perhaps I should have said "for the rest of the season". Parkinson's like double/triple tapping now hopefully fixed.
@FrayedBear Lots of extra letters. You got really excited didn't you?
@FrayedBear Well had I left it playing the cats would have been the only ones listening. The dog and I went to town.
@rogerbenham I need to adjust the refresh rate / double tap rate on this phone together with the nervous twitch in my finger!
@rogerbenham on the Samsung it is amongst the Accessibility settings and now I've made it too slow!
@FrayedBear It is why I use a laptop for all of my internet communication except Facebook Messenger.
