Nino Bravo (Spain) singing his hit "Libre"... "Free". Jose Luis Armenteros and Pablo Blacksmith wrote the song to honor the first Casualty of the Berlin Wall, an 18 year old shot by russians soldiers. I will include translation of the story.
A great shame that Nino Bravo died so young from injuries received from a car crash in Spain.[en.m.wikipedia.org]

Nino Bravo's " FREE " song is inspired by the story of Peter Fechter, a young man of little over 18 years, " almost twenty ", who was the first German who tried to jump in 1962 the newly released wall From Berlin. He came to the wall accompanied by a friend, Helmut Kubelik, who luckily if he came to draw him, but Peter, once he " extended his wings " and fell in love with him, received the high of the Soviet soldiers, but as the song says " leaving So happy he didn't hear the voice he called him " and in this way, by not being attended the high, they shot over the young man who was hit by several shots and fell from the wall in what was called " Nobody's area ".
There he was lying in the sight of everyone, citizens, journalists and military, asking for help while he was overflowing, without being able to move by the seriousness of the wounds, and without anyone who dared to collect it. The Westerners were afraid to receive shots in that new situation and just dared to throw a kit, which of nothing served a Peter Fechter almost dying and every minute with less life.
The Russians who belonged to the dead area kept an endless 50 minutes of agony of the young man until they proceeded to collect it, moment that is collected in the photo that accompanies the text.
The Berlin people who presented the scene shouted at both sides that they will measure the death of that young man, but no one did anything, even the western forces prevented any civilians from coming to help him. In the end, in the place of the event there were only flowers that were released by the outraged berliners.
Wouldn't be the last to die on the wall, there would still be 260 more. The last deceased of this long list was Chris Gueffroy, in 1989, who curiously had twenty years... today there is a monument in the place where Peter fell and there is also a song whose lyrics come well reread from This new optics.
Ten years later the song "FREE" performed by the Spanish singer Nino Bravo and composed by José Luis Armenteros and Pablo Blacksmiths.
He's almost twenty years old
Tired of dreaming;
But after the border is your home,
Your world and your city.
Think the wire only
It's a piece of metal
Something that can never stop
Your desire to fly.
Free,
Like the sun when dawn I am free,
Like the sea.
Free,
Like the bird that escaped from his prison
And it can finally fly.
Free,
Like the wind that collects my regret and my regret,
Road without ceasing,
Behind the truth,
And I will know what freedom is at last.
With his love for flag he marched
Singing a song;
He was so happy he didn't hear
The voice that called him
And laying on the floor stayed,
Smiling and without talking;
On his chest, crimson flowers
From without ceasing.
Berlin Wall First Casualty.
@GipsyOfNewSpain Yes one has to wonder why they were so keen that no-one should escape.
@rogerbenham That is a characteristic of all totalitarian regimes....think North Korea.
@GipsyOfNewSpain Such a waste of young lives, his and many others,
@Marionville think Trump and the Mexican border.
@rogerbenham Now that it is long gone I have heard some saying that they preferred live under communism but perhaps they were ex STAASI or wall guards who are now unemployed.
@FrayedBear I lived in Germany right after got united. Germans loved to have East Germany back. They didn't care that East Germany was in bankrupt. To get back all of those compatriots was worth it. Berlin became a Free City again and certainly their Ladies loved the Freedom. The base where I was stationed had a portion of the Berlin Wall as a Memento of years passed. Example of Life in East Germany... the common car they used manufactured there... had a ruler to measure gas in the tank... yep you had to break out the ruler and insert it on the tank to know how much gas you had left. Long Live Germany. To go to Berlin for the annual Love Parade was an adventure for the Sexual Deviants Group in this site.
@GipsyOfNewSpain it sounds like you were tangoing horizontily vertically, upside down and every point in between. I'm envious!
@FrayedBear No Place like Europe. Hail to the Europeans.
