I love this contemporary Arab music. Fist heard it from Tinariwen, in about 2004. This is a great example of the hypnotic nature of repitition. Thank you for posting πŸ™‚

Actually, the Tuareg are Berbers. Berbers inhabited North Africa for millennia before the Arabs migrated there. Their language is Tamasheq, which is quite distinct from Arabic.

@alliwant I didn't know that. On checking Tinariwen's origins, I find that they are also Tuareg, meaning they are Berbers. Thanks for the learning curve πŸ™‚

@Red_Cat Tuareg musicians are among my favorites. Tinariwen got me hooked, soon followed by Tamikrest, Ezza, Mdou Moctar and others. No one plays guitar like the Tuareg.

There’s a certain similarity to Cajun or Acadian Music....maybe the French influence?

I think it has a little shuffle beat to it. Of course, that is popular in France too.

Fun. They are enjoying themselves. The lead guitarist must have finger nails to envy. Mine would not survive one play through.
