At this time of the year I used to sing a lot of Handel..especially “The Messiah”…either excerpts from, or the entire oratorio. I’m not singing any this year however, so I thought I’d post something by Handel which isn’t from it…and I’ve chosen - Eternal Source Of Light Divine which was written for the 48th birthday of Queen Anne on 6th February 1713. Here it’s performed by Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
Despite all is religiosity, I really like the 'Messiah.' Once one gets past the Hallelujah there are a lot of wonderful parts.
The Hallelujah chorus doesn’t come until the end of the second act…which is two thirds through the entire oratorio….
@Marionville But when the piece is advertised this chorus is highlighted. Once I got past that part I saw a lot of other parts that were just as good if not better. It's like the when advertising Carl Orff's Carmina Burana', O Fortuna is played.
@JackPedigo It’s just because they’re the best known pieces in the work…however in Carmina Burana it just so happens that it’s most famous piece ..O Fortuna, is in fact the introductory movement, in the first act…and comes first in the running order for the whole performance.
@Marionville Absolutely, of course, but still.
Amazing how the human voice can hit these high notes. What a wonderful voice she has. This was so pleasant to hear.
Glad you enjoyed….I’m a first soprano too…although not as good as this young singer of course. Strangely, over the years I’ve had some deterioration in part of my vocal range which is to be expected, but I still have my upper head voice intact…therefore can still sing and sustain long high notes.
@Marionville I would so enjoy hearing you and your choral group sing. I'm sure it is wonderful!!!
