Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.So amid the usual mediafest of babel and bullshit that is beginning after the death of Bob Hawke I recall one instance (One of many) of him doing an absolutely ballistic dummyspit on the occasion of an attempt to bring a Palistinian deligation to Australia to put thier side of the conflict with Israel. From memory I think he blocked thier entry to Australia. This was during the time he led the Australian Council of Trade Unions. Anybody else have thoughts, Knowledge, Opinions regarding this matter?

It has always puzled me as I am sure that I once heard him on the radio express his contempt for Israel and its treatment of Palestinians. His official pronouncements and behaviour has always belied what I heard.
Can't recall, but fits with his allegiance to Zionism. Hawke went on a Zionist sponsored trip to Israel in 1971. On return he declared... "I am an Israelite". Late on in life in a fit of cognitive dissonance he did criticise the Israeli Government and supported the establishment and recognition of a Palestinian State in the West Bank and Gaza. None the less the Zionist Federation of Australia paid tribute on his death.
@FrayedBear He was in fact Jewish. The line of Jewishness is passed down on the maternal side and although he made much reference to his clergyman father his mother was jewish as was he. Many were puzzeled when at the collapse of apartheid in South Africa he as Prime Minister sent Malcolm Frazier to represent Australia at an eminent persons deligation. Frazier and his wife Tammie were Jewish as was his wife Hazel. His second wife was also Jewish. Politicians often have a hidden agenda and. many Jewish politicians keep it hidden. A not well known fact for instance is that Churchill was Jewish via the line of his mother Lady Randolph Churchill.
Note sure where to go to be honest. I spent today reading up on summaries of each of the parties standing in Vic. No one stands out and shouts ‘we will make a difference’. Lots of feeigood rhetoric that is impossible to instigate and the usual ‘we are better than them’ profiled from the big two. Looks like ALP hung parliament to me. At least that would mean Palmer or Hanson don’t get a go in the Big Cgair.
