Yes, it was by water, but when it took flight, it flew up to its nearby nest.
Is it a hawk? An Eagle?

An osprey. They aren't up your way. When I first moved to FL and saw one, I thought it was an eagle, too.
@Floriduhartist In the keys there are many osprey and some eagles. Loved watching them drop to the ocean surface to grab a fish in their talons
@Floriduhartist At the North Sea in Germany, where I come from, we have a bird called Fischadler (fish eagle) I looked up the translation. it is the osprey. Interesting that these birds live on both sides of the Atlantic, in such different climates. The pictures are beautiful.
