This was one of my early portraits I did without any measuring devices or aides other then the photo and my eyes. I have had a hard time getting a good photo, there is much greater contrast on this one in person, Ive worked with it on photoshop but its never really right. I have a new camera but so far none have been right but I will keep trying. This took over 50 hours- Pencil on 300 series paper
You are not happy with the results. I'm seeing a very well done drawing.
the drawing looks much better than it does in this photo is all I mean. I've tried to get prints made but their machines couldn't do it either so I'm still looking for someone that can capture the real image
I understand this to be a photograph ofa drawing you have done. If this is correct you are really good! I would like to see more. Have you thought of being an illustrator?
correct a photo of my drawing. I'm a tattooist by profession
I prefer free hand work. What are your thoughts?
In my opinion it's important to do work without aides to train the eye, which is the real purpose for me doing these pencil portraits in the first place. While it's important to do them for practice as a professional that has deadlines and volumes of work it's not practical or necessary to do it with every piece. It can easily add an extra 10 to 15 hours to do it without use of devices. I do not see anything negative in their use, it still requires the same skill to do the rest of it anyway.
