Combining two passions. Singing Barbershop harmony and knots. The pole is a Japanese braid called kumihimu and the caps are a sailors' knot called a thump mat.

Sometimes... I was inspired to try to make a barber pole as I had just joined the Barbershop Harmony Society.
the pole outside the baabaa's? in the traditional colours red-white-blue?

That is very intriguing. From highschool I remember knot making as part of our practical handiwork ( sewing, knitting, weaving) My father would teach me more knots .His familywere all fishermen and sailors, so it ran in the blood. I was a girl but tht did not phase my father.
What material do you use? Cotton? Jute? Hemp?

I grew up making lanyards. All those different knots. Lol.

First, thank you. The pole is made from different colors of small types of paracord. It is a sheath covering over one to three core strands all nylon. I have worked with cotton and hemp and others. I am a member of the International Guild of Knot Tyers. IGKT.net.
