This is a poem I wrote about my ex boyfriend / close friend that drowned New Years Day of 2018. I haven’t posted it on any of my social media but I know the realest of the real is on here so enjoy! May or may not post it my media outlets later. Thanks for reading!

A shift in the universe
A shift in my soul
Nobody had say a word
Your absence was felt immediately
Before word even got out that you were gone
The fire inside of me vanished with your last breath & with that, the feeling of our wick wrapped around me several times
So tight I thought I’d surely die too
But somehow I broke through
The fibers of the wick dwindling into tiny shreds into the Earth’s floor.
Shreds that I swept up into memories
Memories that blew away with each quick gust of wind
No matter how hard I tried to catch them, I slowly began to lose grasp of everything
Everything we were
Everything we could have been
& everything I wanted us to be
Blown away.
And sometimes I stumble across the fibers of our being
However, I must leave them behind, for I can’t mend our wick
I can only find a new one
Although, you will always flicker in my heart, I must ignite a new fire
