It's beautiful. And tempting. But If I add yet another yummy craft to the ones I already do, I'll never quite complete any projects. At least this, unlike weaving, doesn't take the addition of expensive equipment.
Maybe I should have said the work historically thought of as being women's work. This isn't a sexist comment or a sexist book.
No problem, not taken that way at all.
I taught my classes how to make and use drop spindles. We used CDs. There's a book everyone should read. Women's Work: The First 20,000Years. Something like that. Talk s about how the work usually assigned to women developed.
I own and treasure that book.
@Spinliesel it was only after reading that book did I realize what some of the objects were that we saw in a book when I took an Olmec art history class in grad school years ago. Loom weights!
LOVE that book. I agree, everyone should read it. People take so much for granted now that they don't think about the endless work it took to keep families fed and clothed in the past.
I have a lightweight hand spindle but get more done with a chopsitck through an apple it needs reappling every time you use it but works well you just have to put a notch in the chopstick.
Yes, perfect. Aything that can be set to spinning and a smooth stick and a hook makes a very god spindle. Way to go.
