It's taking me quite a while to get going on a new type of sculpture... new kiln, new orders of materials, a course, waiting for tools etc. Then kiln arrived very smashed about, finally gave up on it, and then 2 days later it miraculously started working!
This is small direct sculpture using bronze powder, which has a binder (same principle as art-clay silver or PMC), then when fired it becomes pure bronze metal.
So here are the pieces I made in the course, the kiln, then the 2 sets of test pieces I fired today. Very amateur and experimental still! The dull frog is unfired, he'll be next!
WOW! You are so talented! Really like the little crescent moon shaped pendant with what looks like a raku' fired finish!!
For just tests you sure have it going on pretty well.
Wow, there's a lot of talent shown in these figurines!
Assuming you've had your place rewired for high voltage usage ? Must run your gas/electric bills up ?
@Allamanda Here in eastern WA State I pay about 9.4 cents per kilowatt hour. Hydroelctric and wind have kept the electical rates down. Good thing cause I can't take the cold like I use to and tend to keep the heat on a lot in the fall, winter and early spring.
@Allamanda I have scored some really lovely cashmere sweaters for either very cheap, $5.00 or free! I have about about 5 cashmere and 7 fine wool ones. There is a really ugly green one I wear like a thermal undershirt in the middle of winter. Oh so soft and warm.
@Allamanda If you can wear wool next to your skin or with a thin wife-beater t-shirt underneath wool is the only thing that keeps me warm in the winter months!! The manmade fabrics make me sweat even tho I'm cold - can't figure that out. Then over the wool I'll layer with a turtleneck and then a loose long sort of sweater or oversized men's shirt. I wear leggings so I can use legwarmers. If wool next to your skin is an issue a t-shirt or turtleneck with a nice wool pullover works also for moderate cold. Here if it's in the teens or single digits and I must go out the wool comes first.
