Tick patrol. I'm sure once you're getting your dogs out you'll begin to run into ticks. The East Coast has a bad problem with deer ticks and Lyme disease which dogs can get. Learn the difference between them here: [lymedisease.org]
Things not to do:
1-Pull it out with tweezers because it pushes what's in the tick mouth back into the dog.
2-Use your fingers to pull it out, this is only feasible if the tick is not secured yet. Reason not to do it see #1.
3: use a blown out match on the sticking out part of the tick, just may kill the tick but not remove it. Still need to get it out without letting the mouth put back mouth fluid. etc.
What to do? Get a tick remover-a white. cup. These will absolutely pull out the smallest ticks without leaving anything from the ticks mouth into the dog. I take the tick off, get them in tweezers and burn them. I know it's murder of ticks but better them than me.The area with the tick examine closely sometimes they have babies on the dog and they are around the big tick.
