I'm in a tent in the Smokey Mtns park as I write this. There is an owl trying to drown out the bugs. Tomorrow or Saturday the first tentative voyage of the atheist navy will take place on the Nantahala River. Waiting on the first mate to arrive.

As I was finishing packing the car for a weekend hiking trip, I realize I forgot my sleeping bag. Luckily, I noticed my tent as I was retrieving the bag. This should be a great adventure on the trail!

Hiked 4 miles on part of the Carolina Thread Trail yesterday. Plan to do 6 miles on the Rail Trail this afternoon. Getting my leg muscles in shape for a knee replacement on Nov 15. I'm lucky to live close to several trails.

I love hike, and used like camping when I was younger, but I am addicted the lake. I recently bought my...well...not dream home (it's a fixer-upper), but it's on the lake! (no need for camping anymore).

So any climbers in this group? Started climbing only recently but got totally enthusiastic about it - to the degree where I overdid it a bit and have to pause now because of an injury :(
