Just an honest question before I consider joining the group, but if not god or government then what? Self-governed people? True democracy via use of technology (I think this could be accomplished with today's tech.) Like a cell phone based voting system? Answers and opinions welcome of course.
I would rexommend: direct democracy, decentralization of power, revocable authority, transparency, dismantling of most hierarchical power structures unless their necessity can be demonstrated, and the eventual elimination of money as capital. But that's just me.
What are you proposing, a technocracy? Just curious.
@rogeralyn Might not be applicable in all situations, but a solid idea there.
Individuals who maintain their own discipline, and a society that fairly punishes those who initiate force. Democracy is not freedom, though it is more free than many other forms of government. Democracy has a couple other names I like to use: tyranny of the majority and mob rule. If the majority agrees that you have too much stuff and it should be forcibly taken from you, does that make it any less an initiation of force that infringes on the victim's right to self-ownership?
Just like individuals should not initiate force against another, government should not initiate force, either. People run their own lives. Volunteerism takes over, rather than force by government.
I agree. Out of curiosity, are you also an anarchocapitalist, or have you not determined that everything the government does involves some sort of initiation of force?
Side note, I think the word you were looking for is voluntarism, which is a synonym for anarchocapitalism.
Posted by SpikeTalonI kneel before no one. No gods, no masters, no control freaks. Screw the tyrants from both political extremes, and their agendas.
Posted by SpikeTalonNeither one of the extremes, and yet the best of both worlds...
Posted by SpikeTalonSubstitute the word liberals for progressives, and that would describe me as well. As for the conservative part, the socially/theocratic (aka, bible thumpers, mostly) ones in particular.
Posted by SpikeTalonIndividuality is a dirty word to the authoritarians (both left and right) in the world.
