I wanted to be sure my new sneakers were vegan so I ordered these, should get them tomorrow. A friend thinks that thinking about weather or not my shoes are vegan is going to far... my answer was, “I don’t feel I need to kill animals just to walk“. Some people don’t seem to understand that veganism is more than just diet... I don’t just eat a plant-based diet, I’m a vegan. I want everything to be cruelty free from my plate to my shoes.

Yup, that is my experience too. I still get make up and bath products, some clothing, that have animal products in them as gifts. Granted, some of those animal-sourced ingredients could be pretty tricky to spot. Many people don't even know where glycerin or gelatin comes from (and sometimes they are vegetable sourced but not indicated specifically as such). Some of the food colouring (eg.carmine) too, they have no idea about. My mom sent me ointments that contain emu oil, and when I told her I couldn't use those, she told me she had no idea what "emu" was. I know we can't completely avoid animal ingredients in absolutely everything, but we try to do as much as we can.
