WHAT DO YOU DO??? When somebody follows your site and you go read their details, why they would join this site when they believe in God and Jesus Christ, I block them.
It depends. If they show any indication of preaching or proselytising, I would block. If they appear to have a respectful interest in the opinions of atheists and agnostics - just as I have a respectful interest in the opinions of religious people who are respectful and interested in my opinions - I'm more than happy to engage with them.
I agree... awesome attitude. I try to be accepting as long as someone doesn't force feed me their believes. We can't all be the same. Maybe we can help them see things a little differently.
@CreativeTN Precisely that. If we're accepting, tolerant and willing to co-exist with others, perhaps others will learn from that.
I couldn't agree more. Big thumbs up to you @Jnei BTW Are you an artist? Are your uploads your work? If so, you are very talented.
Are they just stalking you? Lurking? Trying to convert you? Maybe they're hoping to find confirmation for a growing atheism in themselves? That's just odd!
I would not block them. Exposure to the kinds of ideas found here is exactly what they need.
@Sheannutt I get that. We all have our limits.
Sorry I was not clear earlier. I did not express a belief. I simply meant that I understand how someone could make a particular judgement call given certain conditions on the ground. ?
They are always trying to proselytize. They think they will go to Heaven if they get you to believe their nonsense.
I think you are correct. Secretly they have their doubts but it reinforces their belief if you believe.
Here is a paragraph I wrote a while back...
Cognitive dissonance
If you are a Christian, are you obligated to believe that everything in the Bible is true?
If not, how do you decide what is true, and what can be ignored?
If you believe that everything in the Bible is true, do you suffer from COGNITIVE DISSONANCE* when you read of events in the Bible such as the following.
Talking Serpent Genesis 3
Lot’s wife pillar of salt Genesis 19
Aaron’s rod becomes a serpent Exodus 7
Parting of the sea Exodus 14
Balaam and his donkey converse Numbers 22
The sun stood still Joshua 10
Samson ties torches to tails of 300 foxes Judges 15
Jesus sees all the Kingdoms from non existent mountain Matthew 4
Well you get the idea.
Good observation...@MichaelSpinler
Just tell them, "The Kingdom of the Father is here on Earth, but men do not see it!" it's from the Thomas Gospel. Should throw 'em for a loop!
Yup. That's what the "block" button is for, LOL!
I also block trolls, men who are rude to others, make misogynistic comments, make sexual comments about women, or show sexual photos.
I even block men I notice are making these types comments to OTHER women, since I don't want to ever consider dating them.
I will talk to anyone as long as they:
Are open-minded and are willing to alter their beliefs with new evidence.
Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what they wish to be true.
Respect the scientific method as the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
Respect every person has the right to control of their body.
Are open to the knowledge that a god is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
Are mindful of the consequences of all their actions and recognize that they must take responsibility for them.
Treat others as they can reasonably expect themselves to be treated.
Sincerely think about my perspective.
Appreciate that we have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
Accept there is no one right way to live.
Agree we should leave the world a better place than they found it.
@Sheannutt Thank You.TBH I took these ideas from the policy page on this site.
Some theists join this site with the aim of converting us. I also wonder if subconsciously they are testing their own faith.
There are a few on here today.
I’ve heard people say this but I don’t seem to run into them. Could you point them out to me, maybe in a private message if you like. Just curious. Thanks.
That would make me feel like a snitch.
I suspect that some are here out of genuine curiosity and some are here to get converts, and some are here to foment discord and confusion. I think we should treat them all with respect, patience, and firm resolve. Roll out the good ol' logic and reason based on facts. Win their hearts and minds. Show them that ours IS the better way. After all, they are our countrymen and women. Our brethren, if you will.
It depends on how they interact. If they are just lurking or asking polite questions, I will be happy to engage in conversation. It's extremely unlikely that I will be interested in pursuing any relationship with a theist. Been there, done that, and it sucked. If they get pushy or obnoxious, they get blocked, no matter what they do or don't believe.
There is no "they". Every human being is an individual, and every individual has a different story. I'll talk to anybody who is respectful. I don't require that they have my identical worldview.

What??? When someone strolls in trying to throw down some religion on us you gotta ENGAGE THEM. Thats like Evil Bart rolling into town and showing up to the saloon where wild bill deals cards. Theyre lookin to throw down! Lookin for a tussle. Engage the enemy with reason and logic and compassion.
